You never know if these things are just run-of-the-mill incompetence or the results of left-wing diversity hiring, but I'm going to say "both" for this one.

A now-defunct city webpage makes sure to note that Sarah is non-binary:

"THEY."

Sarah Russell said her team is small and they weren't available to activate the tornado siren after "business hours."

I mean, it's not like anyone died...

Oh.

Don't worry though: Russell's office did have time to warn gay-sex-festival attendees to properly hydrate:

According to KMOV, they/them is on paid leave pending an investigation.

City officials say there was then a breakdown in communication, with the directive to activate the sirens being vague. [Mayor Cara] Spencer's office says the standard procedure appears to have been drafted by Russell in 2021, but may never have been fully implemented.

'My takeaway was that the direction was not clear. It did not direct the person on the other end to press the fire button and it's my understanding the button was not pushed,' Mayor Spencer said.

Mayor Spencer went on to add:

We have systemic failure across so many systems here.

That's odd, because St. Louis has been led by Democrats since 1953. That's 72 years of unbroken rule to see what kind of city their policies would create!

Apparently it created "systemic failure" where officials can't figure out how to push a button to save lives.
