I certainly hope this little girl gets her taxes in order before one of the 87,000 new IRS agents gets on her case.
Yup, the Rib and Food Festival was in town last weekend and they really didn't like the idea of a Little Miss Asa Baker selling dollar lemonades and fifty-cent Slim Jims right down the street.
So what did the festival organizers do?
They complained to the police… about an 8-year-old.
Sad.
Asa Baker was selling lemonade in an alley outside the business where her father works near the Alliance, Ohio, Rib and Food Festival last weekend when she says a local police officer asked her to shut down the stand, WJW-TV reported…
Alliance police Lt. Don Wensel told WJW-TV that police received a complaint from festival organizers who he said seemed to be conflicted about voicing their concerns — but ultimately, officers are required to enforce local ordinances.
To be fair, the police really didn't want to do this, they were simply required to.
Here's that local ordinance:
Little girl failed to get a license.
Quite a shame.
Again, police felt bad about this and even handed Asa $20 cash to use toward the license.
Asa's mom with more:
"In order to get a food vendors license, it only lasts for five days and it's $40 for five days so that's kind of out of the picture. If she wants to sell on the street, she has to get a street permit. If she sells in front of a business, we have to get a solicitor's permit," Moore said.
Well, it looks like the Rib and Food Festival's little game only worked to light a fire under Little Miss Baker as well as a local business owner, cuz she's back up and running.
Asa's lemonade stand was up and running again on Friday in front of local business owner Eric Strata's location, where police said they would not interfere. Strata had seen a Facebook post about Baker's predicament and offered to help with the permit process.
Good for her!
Keep up the good work, Asa Baker!
And make sure to pay your taxes, unless you want a visit from one of those armed IRS agents…
