Nope, this isn't satire.

Meet Rep. Raghib Allie-Brennan (you already know his party affiliation), the Chief Majority Whip of the Connecticut House and Co-Chair of the LGBTQ+ Caucus:

The Connecticut Mirror reports that Raghib has been connected to other shoplifting incidents at the same Target (whoops):

A Bethel police summary of his arrest stated Allie-Brennan was detained by Target loss prevention personnel who told police they recognized him from 'previous unreported larcenies.'

He was arrested after police reviewed security video showing him attempting to leave the store with $26.69 in unpaid merchandise, police said. The summary provided no further details.

I'm sure he forgot to pay all those other times because of his sick grandma!

Even without the ironic component of this story, the comments were hilarious 👇

The irony makes it that much crazier:

Take a look at this Connecticut bill from 2019:

"On and after July 1, 2021, no owner or operator of a store shall provide or sell a single-use checkout bag to a customer."

The governor signed this bill into law on June 26, 2019 - exactly six years ago today - banning plastic bags under a certain thickness.

Look at whose name was on it:

I wonder why Target didn't have those bags, Raghib! 🤣

The congressman has been issued a misdemeanor summons for 6th-degree larceny.
