Portland city employees will now be eligible for paid bereavement leave after having abortions. The policy change is clear that this includes all abortions, "irrespective of whether deemed medically necessary."
According to Oregon Public Broadcasting,
The city council unanimously approved changes earlier this month to their bereavement leave policy that advocates say puts Portland on the cutting edge of abortion-rights legislation. With that vote, advocates say, the city became the first in the nation to allow public employees to take paid time off after an abortion.
Abortion rights activists are celebrating the move, but I'm not sure if they know what the definition of bereavement is....
to be deprived of a loved one through a profound absence, especially due to the loved one's death
Which makes perfect sense if you've experienced the loss of a child. But the abortion-rights activists who are celebrating Portland's new policy are the exact same people arguing that abortion is just removing a "clump of cells" or part of a woman's body.
If that were the case, then Portland should also be offering bereavement for those who've had to have their wisdom teeth or appendix out. But obviously, it's not the same.
And the pro-abortion activists know it's not the same.
They even applaud when abortion is just one more word in a list that includes miscarriage, stillbirth, and pregnancy loss, as if there is a moral equivalence between the intentional killing of a child and the tragic loss of a child.
Andrea Miller, president of the National Institute for Reproductive Health, said of the new policy,
It's important to recognize that employees need time to address their reproductive health needs... and they may need time to process what they're experiencing. A policy like this is a really important step forward in providing that kind of support to employees and in recognition of the fact that we aren't just robots.
It's really encouraging to see Portland recognize that city employees aren't robots, but are in fact, human.
Now do babies in the womb.
