I know it's been the case for pretty much the last 4 years, but especially over the last few weeks it feels like Biden has just let his interns take charge of the White House.
In his final debt "forgiveness" act, President Biden is letting 261,000 Americans off the hook for $4.5 billion they have borrowed in student loans, putting the rest of us on the hook instead.
In a statement released by the Department of Education (DOE), the Biden administration said the forgiveness was distributed to 261,000 borrowers who attended Ashford University, a largely online school, from March 2009 to April 2020.
The recipients attended the formerly for-profit university, which the DOE determined had made 'widespread misrepresentations' about students' ability to obtain needed licensure, transferring credits, the cost and total of financial aid and the time it would take people to earn a degree.
The DOE under Biden has a special vendetta against "for-profit" universities because they have a moral qualm with schools that are, by charter, honest about their money-making goals. Instead, they prefer universities that are "non-profit."
Essentially, the Biden DOE sued Ashford University for being a for-profit school, won, and then made the US taxpayers refund people who went to this school.
Even if the DOE is right, and these quarter-million people were scammed, I'm not sure why I am expected to bail them out.
Maybe I'm missing something here.
Ashford borrowers will be sent emails from the department in the coming days to notify them that their outstanding balances 'will be discharged.' Borrowers will not need to take further action to receive the relief ...
The Wednesday announcement comes just days after President Biden said his administration would forgive student loans for more than 150,000 borrowers.
The move brings the total number of people impacted by student loan forgiveness and relief during Biden's term to more than 5 million.
All of this largely in defiance of the Supreme Court, mind you.
And they'll try to tell you that Democrats respect the American governmental system!
