He died a hero.
Dan Marburger, the principal of Perry High School in Iowa where another transgender shooter attacked innocent children, has passed away, succumbing to injuries sustained while trying to save his students.
Dan Marburger "acted selflessly and placed himself in harm's way" as a student opened fire at Perry high school near Des Moines, officials said.
He tried to distract the gunman before being shot, giving students a chance to flee, according to his daughter.
The man went above and beyond to take care of his students.
It almost makes you wish that good men like Marburger were allowed to be armed while in school, because this man went into full protect-the-flock mode.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said he would "forever be remembered for his selfless and heroic actions".
She ordered flags across the state to fly at half-mast until sunset on the day of Mr Marburger's funeral.
This man is the definition of a hero and he should forever be remembered as such.
