The recent devastating string of tornadoes in the American South and Midwest left countless tragedies in their wake, but there have been several stories from the fiasco that are profoundly uplifting and inspiring.

Among them is one in which a local Kentucky man basically just stumbled by chance across two babies buried in wreckage.

Timmy Vannoy said he went to check on his aunt and uncle and discovered instead a scene of near-total destruction in their neighborhood. Meeting up with a couple of local deputies, the three began searching for his loved ones when:

[A] noise and some movement alerted them to someone or something buried in the debris.

"We moved all the debris off the shower, and we lifted the shower up, and there was the little 15-month-old, was laying there crying, little boy," he recalled.

Alongside deputies Trent Arnold and Troy Blue, Vannoy recovered the child.

"That's great!" you're probably saying to yourself. But it gets better than great: The three men actually got a two-for-one baby deal:

"And over to the side of it was — they had a little three-month-old that — he was up and under all the debris, laying on his — on his belly," he said.

Both babies survived.

"Discovered and saved two babies from tornado wreckage by accident" is basically like a Mad Lib of good fortune and happy stuff. It might not lessen the rest of the whole terrible tragedy, but then again it doesn't really have to: Pulling two babies safely from a collapsed house is a self-justifying spectacular event.
