A couple of years ago, we all had a big laugh when probable psychopath Miles Walker, the owner of A OK Luxury Autoworks, paid Andreas Flaten's final paycheck in oil soaked pennies.
But Flaten wasn't laughing. He tried to clean a few handfuls, but it was going to be full time job getting the oil off the pennies, and then he had to figure out how to cash them in for usable currency.
When Flaten complained, Walker said,
I know tons about it. What's wrong with it? ...I don't know if I did that or not, I don't really remember. It doesn't matter. He got paid, that's all that matters. He's a [flowerbedding] weenie for even bringing it up.
With a reply like that, you might find this next part hard to believe, but Walker wasn't treating any of his employees very well.
Apparently breaking labor laws left and right, making them work over 40 hours per week without overtime and tearing up the final paychecks of other employees that quit--that sort of thing.
After the news of what he did to Flaten broke, the employees joined Flaten in a class action lawsuit.
They won a collective $39,934.
In addition, Walker must remove "all photographs of and references to former employee Andreas Flaten, and is permanently enjoined from posting photographs of or references to Mr. Flaten on [their website] or any other website or social media site."
I guess he won't be posting a picture of the wheelbarrow full of oil-soaked quarters he sends Flaten to pay off this debt.
