American voters will either love this or hate this:
According to the Center for Immigration Studies, there has been an overall 2.2 million drop in the nation's foreign-born population, including 1.6 million of them being illegal immigrants.
There is certainly variation in the data, but the trend had been upward in the preceding four years. However, since January 2025, the trend has been in the other direction, declining nearly 2.23 million since the start of this year. This is a huge and statistically significant decline, indicating something has fundamentally changed.3 This is by far the largest six-month decline that has ever occurred within the same year in the CPS since January of 1994, when the CPS began to ask about citizenship on a regular basis.
Additional data from the study indicates that while naturalized citizenship has increased (good job, people who are doing things the right way), the drop in foreign-born people has been exclusively among non-citizens.
Finally, this shift in illegal aliens has also had a measurable impact on the job market in the U.S., as the number of foreign-born workers has fallen while the number of U.S.-born workers has increased accordingly.
All things considered, the millions of people who elected Trump based on his promises to halt illegal immigration are getting what they voted for.
