The Bureau of Labor Statistics just released the state-by-state unemployment figures, and guess what?
The nine states with the lowest unemployment rates in 2022 were all run by Republican governors. South Dakota led the winners with a rate of 2.1 percent (congrats to Gov. Kristi Noem). North Dakota (Doug Burgum), Nebraska (Pete Ricketts), Utah (Spencer Cox), Missouri (Mike Parson), New Hampshire (Chris Sununu), Alabama (Kay Ivey), Montana (Greg Gianforte), and Vermont (Phil Scott) followed at 2.1 to 2.6 percent.
The ten states with the highest unemployment rates in 2022 were all run by Democrat governors. Nevada led the losers at 5.4 percent under the direction of Gov. Steve Sisolak. Following Nevada were Illinois (J.B. Pritzker), Delaware (John Carney), Pennsylvania (Tom Wolf), New York (Kathy Hochul), Washington (Jay Inslee), Oregon (Kate Brown), Michigan (Gretchen Whitmer), Connecticut (Ned Lamont), and California (Gavin Newsom), all between 4.6 and 4.2 percent.
