Riley Gaines is right, we have to stop saying "biological woman." Let me explain.

I use it all the time, my friends on right Twitter use it all the time, and I'm sure you use it all the time: The term "biological woman." We first used it as a sort of tongue-in-cheek defense against the language police who wanted us to use "women" to refer to all athletes participating in women's sports, even the male ones. But now I think I've had my mind changed on the term, after hearing this from swimmer-turned-activist Riley Gaines:

Listen up:

Notice how we refer to ourselves as "biological women." I think that's so funny because, for the longest time I did too, I thought I had to make the distinction, you know, I'm a biological female and this person is a biological male. We have to stop with that. We cannot refer to ourselves as biological anything. That's admitting that there's an unbiological alternative and there's not. There is man and there is woman. There is male and there is female. There is girl and there is boy and there is mother and there is father. This idea that we can change what God created us to be is beyond absurd.

I think she's right, and I know that means we've been doing it wrong for like three years, but that's okay โ€” it's never too late to change the terminology.

And while I don't see any alternative language provided by Ms. Gaines, I noticed in the Christian Post article regarding this same topic the author uses the term "trans-identifying male." I think that's pretty straightforward.

For instance:

Riley Gaines, a former college swimmer who has become an outspoken critic of policies allowing trans-identified males to compete on women's sports teams, addressed the crowd at the Family Research Council's Pray, Vote, Stand Summit last week.

So stop saying "biological male" and "biological female" and just be a little more precise with your language. All the while, keep up the good fight so that trans-identifying males don't ruin women's sports for the females.
