Four years ago Ron DeSantis just barely eked out a win in Florida's gubernatorial race. Now, ahead of November's elections, he looks likely to do a lot more than just eke:
Four years after winning election by the narrowest of margins, Florida Gov. Ron eSantis (R) leads his three most likely Democratic challengers in advance of November's midterm elections, a new poll finds.
The survey, conducted by the nonpartisan firm Mason-Dixon Polling and Research, found DeSantis claiming more than half the vote in match-ups against Rep. Charlie Crist (D), state Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried (D) and state Sen. Annette Taddeo (D).
DeSantis leads Crist, making his bid to return to Tallahassee a dozen years after his sole term as governor ended, by a 51 percent to 43 percent margin. DeSantis leads Fried by a 53 percent to 42 percent margin. And he leads Taddeo, who represents a Miami-area district, 53 percent to 37 percent.
It's hard to figure what could possibly explain such juggernaut poll returns. Could it be that Ron DeSantis has been America's foremost executive defender of individual liberty and political sanity over the past two years, putting himself well ahead of every other GOP governor and even former President Donald Trump himself?
Who knows? Surely other Republicans are scratching their heads and trying to figure it out though.
But wait, everyone, it's even more mind-blowing than you think: This poll was oversampled in favor of Democrats:
The Mason-Dixon poll was conducted Feb. 7-10 among 625 registered Florida voters, with an oversample of 400 likely Democratic primary voters.
Yeah I think it's time to bust out a timeless sports metaphor:
Good luck to our man DeSantis, even if you don't really need it!
