Uvalde School Police Chief Placed On Leave After Failed Response To Mass Shooter

It's been nearly a month since the tragic shooting at an Uvalde, Texas elementary school and ever since the tragedy there has been more and more evidence that the police response to the shooting was an absolute disaster.

The latest shows just how tragically incompetent the response was:

A month afterward, School District Chief of Police Pedro Arredondo, the person who has been under the most scrutiny because he was the man in command, has finally been placed on leave. He is being replaced by Lt. Mike Hernandez at this time.

No charges, no other punishments yet, but as of now, he's off the force.

From CNN:

At the center of the furor has been the school district's police chief Pedro "Pete" Arredondo. On Wednesday, nearly a month after the horrific shooting, he was placed on leave...

Arredondo and responding law enforcement agencies have faced fierce criticism over the length of time officers were stationed in a hallway outside adjoining classrooms 111 and 112 at Robb Elementary, where an 18-year-old gunman and the victims were located...

Earlier this month, Arredondo told The Texas Tribune he didn't consider himself the incident commander and did not instruct officers to refrain from breaching the scene.

The investigations from the Texas Department of Public Safety so far have put a lot of the blame on Arredondo, claiming as field commander he ordered officers to wait to enter the room.

Of course, there were many law enforcement agencies present, up to 8 different agencies in the school building at once, but Arredondo is the man DPS has pegged as the one in charge.

If this is correct, there should be much more punishment than a forced leave. It's an inexcusable mistake.
