It's amazing that there are still things out there that scientists discover and go, "Uh we have no idea what this is." But apparently that's the case here:
A team of deep sea explorers visiting an extinct volcano found something resembling a golden egg 250 miles off the coast of southern Alaska. …
There, at a depth of about 2 miles, sat a shiny golden orb — with a perplexing hole in it.
"Something tried to get in ... or to get out," one researcher observed in a live feed.
If you're like me then right now you're activating your "There's Some Sort of Hideous Golden Egg Sea Monster Out There and I'm Locking Down Right Now" protocol.
Seriously, what could it be? They just don't know.
An investigation of the weird object revealed it "was delicate to the touch, like skin tissue." This is, again, the point at which I leave the seabed and never go back. But since they're scientists, they're kind of crazy. So they suctioned this thing up and brought it back to the surface.
I can assure you that this weird blob did not look any more meaningful or intelligible on the surface:
Let me know when they figure out what it is. I will be in my subterranean bunker until they know it's not Godzilla's egg.
