Agents found the stand on Thursday, and the FBI is now leading an investigation into the discovery. FBI Director Kash Patel said the hunting stand has not yet been connected to any individual.
The hunting stand appears to have been set up "months ago."
‘Prior to the President's return to West Palm Beach, USSS discovered what appeared to be an elevated hunting stand within sight line of the Air Force One landing zone,' Patel told Fox News Digital. ‘No individuals were located at the scene. The FBI has since taken the investigatory lead, flying in resources to collect all evidence from the scene, and deploying our cell phone analytics capabilities.'
Secret Service is working with both the FBI and Palm Beach County authorities to investigate who set up the stand and why.
One of the two men who have tried to kill Trump in the past year, Ryan Routh, was convicted just weeks ago for trying to assassinate the president at his Palm Beach golf course.
Outside of Trump's golf course, there is no forested area around the airport where hunting would be permitted, if that was the purpose of the tree stand.
Local, state, and federal laws also heavily restrict hunting near airports.
Though unconfirmed, anecdotal reports say the stand may have been in this patch of woods between the airport and Trump's golf course to the south.
To add credibility to this location, a 2017 video of Trump arriving to Palm Beach shows him just north of the AUTEC Terminal, which would be a clear line of sight from the patch of trees. Note the location of the buses in the photos.
