Relatively few people want to admit the truth about pit bulls.
Alas, for many people, the truth sometimes comes and literally bites them.
Via the New York Post:
A Tennessee mom was forced to have her leg amputated after her pit bull savagely locked its jaws around the limb, leaving it "hanging on by a thread" as she tried to break up a dogfight inside her home. ...
As [42-year-old Amanda] Mears, a health care worker, tried to intervene in the vicious attack, Dennis clamped onto her left leg and refused to release his grip, prompting her to choke the animal with her other leg to break free.
By the time she got to the hospital, her leg was "basically hanging off":
Facing the prospect of either amputation or years of painful surgeries, Mears opted for the amputation, while also requiring surgery on her arms where the vicious pit bull had attacked her.

Mears decided to put Dennis down, thankfully. But of course, there's always another pit bull, always another attack, right? Like this one out of Connecticut:
A pit bull attack in Windsor left the dog's owner with multiple bite marks and lacerations all over their body, according to police on Monday.
