What is the matter with people?
DR, which is like the Danish version of the BBC has created a new animated series aimed at kids between 4 and 8 years old.
It's about John Dillerman, a man who solves problems with the aid of his extraordinarily long penis, which has a mind of its own.
This is for kids, by the way.
You can watch the full first episode here.
Did I mention this was a kid's show??
Apparently, a bunch of prudes have a problem with the premise. Go figure! The show premiered on Saturday and has already faced harsh criticism from people all over Denmark.
But they aren't really upset about THIS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING SHOW because it is entirely perverted to subject children to something like this and call it entertainment or because this is literally the kind of idea a pedophile would come up with to groom kids.
No.
According to The Guardian, people don't like the show because they are concerned about the #MeToo implications of showing kids a character who literally can't control this thingy. Which is a fair point, to be honest.
Danish author Anne Lise Marstrand-Jørgensen put it this way, "Is this really the message we want to send to children while we are in the middle of a huge #MeToo wave?" she wrote.
And Christian Groes, a gender researcher at Roskilde University was mostly worried about the patriarchal implications of the show.
"It's perpetuating the standard idea of a patriarchal society and normalising ‘locker room culture' … that's been used to excuse a lot of bad behaviour from men. It's meant to be funny – so it's seen as harmless. But it's not. And we're teaching this to our kids."
Of course, there are many others who can't see any issue at all since they've long since cauterized their consciences.
Erla Heinesen Højsted, a clinical psychologist who works with families and children, said she believed the show's opponents may be overthinking things. "John Dillermand talks to children and shares their way of thinking – and kids do find genitals funny,"
Kids find it funny. What other explanation do you need?
This is real. And it is objectively disgusting.
