Some punks in Kentucky stole a bronze top hat from this Abe Lincoln statue

Some punks in Louisville, Kentucky have absconded with the iconic stovetop cap portion of an Abraham Lincoln statue along the Ohio River.

Ed Hamilton, the sculptor who carved the statue, posted this on Facebook letting his fans know that a portion of the statue had been stolen.

The top hat was sitting on the ground in the sculpture, apart from the body of the statue, and apparently, the target was just too much for these Louisville vandals to pass up.

If only they had listened to the words of Lincoln?

Okay, maybe that's from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, but the message remains the same.

Don't be a punk!

Metro Louisville Police told news outlets that an online report has been filed with the department and they are asking anyone with information to call an anonymous tip line...

Park officials are reviewing video recordings to see if they can spot any suspicious activity, Hamilton told the Courier Journal. He said he hopes the hat is returned soon.

According to the artist, it would take a lot of determination and brute strength to rip the bronze hat from the base, so whoever took Lincoln's hat had to have REALLY wanted it.

But, for now, the case of Lincoln's top hat remains a mystery!
