Someone call Samuel L Jackson because this South African pilot just came face to face with one of the scariest things one can imagine. Snakes on a plane.
Well, one snake.
A freaking venomous cobra!
This was on a tiny aircraft and the pilot was carrying just four other passengers when he discovered the dangerous serpent coiled up underneath his seat.
Rudolf Erasmus says he felt something cold slithering "across his lower back." Then he looked down and saw the snake go underneath his seat.
Man, if it was me, that "eject" button would have looked VERY tempting at that moment.
"It was as if my brain didn't know what was going on," he told The Associated Press.
After taking a moment to compose himself, he informed his passengers of the slippery stowaway.
"There was a moment of stunned silence," he said. Everyone stayed cool, especially the pilot.
Man, this pilot is VERY fortunate that he was able to keep cool and all the passengers were able to keep cool.
In a situation like this, it would be SO easy to freak out.
Erasmus called air traffic control and asked for an emergency landing, then he had to fly another 15 minutes to make it to the closest runway.
After landing, emergency crews and a snake handler arrived to greet the "visibly shaken" passengers.
But no one was able to find the snake after the plane landed. It had disappeared completely sometime after landing, possibly hiding deep within the inner workings of the aircraft.
They searched for two days, unable to find the varmint, then Erasmus had to fly BACK to where he came from, this time alone, wrapped in a heavy winter coat and a blanket, armed with a golf club and bug spray, just in case the snake chose sometime during the voyage to reemerge.
After all this, the cobra still has not been found. It may have slipped away, or it could very well be in the deep hidden bowels of the plane.
(You wouldn't catch me anywhere near that plane for a long time!)
