Statues and monuments of "old white men" need to be destroyed because they offend "diverse modern public," Welsh government says

The Duke of Wellington

1984 continues unabated in 2023.

The woke Welsh government is rewriting history again, likely spelling the end for monuments of significant historical figures such as the Duke of Wellington, Admiral Lord Nelson, Henry Morton Stanley, and countless other "old white men," as the government calls them. The Orwellian new "best-practice" advice calls for establishing the "right historical narrative," stating that councils and public bodies should "take action," to hide, re-locate, or even destroy monuments - modern sites of memorialization - lest they be "offensive" to the "diverse modern public."

This propaganda machine wants to disappear commemorations of "powerful, older, able-bodied white men" (really, they really used those words) whose bountiful accomplishments earned them statues, awards, and civic honors. To the government of Wales, these hallmarks of achievement are seen as mere "offensive" symbols of white superiority in an age where mass obliviousness and neo-Marxist virtue-signaling are seen as heroic.

The guidance says authorities could "conceal commemorations" or "discreetly box monuments or enclose them creatively in new artworks." (Gee, wonder what flavor of "new artworks" they have in mind?) Alternatively, "offensive or unwanted items" could be relocated to a place where no one would see them, or "destroyed."

Additionally, street and building names could also be changed, the guidance states, to "remove offensive or unwanted [read: white] names."

All of these things "can be offensive to people today who see them in a different light," the woke tyrants say, including as "aggressors who conquered peoples to expand the British Empire."

Remarkable accomplishments and recognitions are now demeaned as "racist colonial myths about white superiority."

I'm not making this stuff up. Go read it for yourself.

This isn't the first time the Welsh government has erased history.

In 2020, the limp-wristed rulers boarded up a statue of Sir Thomas Picton in Cardiff after the mayor called for its removal - and Picton's legacy, despite his heroic actions in the bloody Battle of Waterloo and other pivotal military exploits, was memory-holed because he was identified with the slave trade.

So he's just not a part of history anymore, I guess.

This new government action also follows 2021's "Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan" which came on the heels of the BLM protests/riots, by which hundreds of statues, plaques, buildings and street names linked to "the slave trade and British Empire."

Welsh Conservatives are currently fighting the new guidance, but it is expected to be finalized this month.
