Stop the press! A district court judge's attempt to force the Trump administration to unfreeze billions in foreign aid didn't last long.

The battle waged between the Trump administration and its opponents over the president's move to suspend more than 90% of federal funding for USAID and $60 billion in additional foreign assistance programs took yet another turn late Wednesday evening.

A ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court temporarily blocked an order issued by U.S. District Judge Amir H. Ali that would have required the Trump administration to release billions in federal dollars.

From the Associated Press:

Trump on Jan. 20 ordered what he said would be a 90-day program-by-program review of which foreign assistance programs deserved to continue, and cut off all foreign assistance funds almost overnight.

The funding freeze has stopped thousands of U.S.-funded programs abroad, and the administration and Musk's Department of Government Efficiency teams have pulled the majority of USAID staff off the job through forced leave and firings.

The attempt by the Biden-appointed Judge Ali hit a snag when the Supreme Court blocked his order:

U.S. District Judge Amir H. Ali's order to unfreeze billions of dollars by midnight Wednesday will remain on hold until the Supreme Court has a chance to weigh in more fully, according to the brief order signed by Chief Justice John Roberts.

Roberts gave the plaintiffs until Friday at noon to respond.

Stay tuned to see if the U.S. president can be legally forced to shell out billions more of our taxpayer dollars for more nonsense.

Meanwhile:

Mess around ... find out, Judge Ali!
