Teen makes the mistake of vowing to eat one tablespoon of peanut butter for every 50 followers he gains

Eli Mielke decided he wanted to amass a following on Instagram, but he needed something to draw people in, so he offered to eat one tablespoon of peanut butter for every 50 followers he gained.

'All over the internet they've been doing just certain things for so many followers and I thought well peanut butter's pretty good,' said Eli.

That was a mistake.

After six days, he hit 20,000 followers. That's 400 tablespoons of peanut butter, or a gallon and a half.

He said,

I decided to make a change cause I can't eat a gallon and a half of peanut butter. Uh, I might die. But so, I decided every 10,000 followers, I'll eat one cup of peanut butter.

But he wasn't getting out of it that easy.

The followers kept coming and so did the cups of peanut butter.

It's gotten to the point that Skippy is sending him jars of peanut butter to eat for free.

I mean who wouldn't eat peanut butter with Los Reyes sunglasses on, right?

'I'd get about a quarterway through it and all hope was gone. I didn't think I could get through it and I kept going. And in the videos you can see I just lay there for a solid minute just think about it, like I can't keep going,' said Eli.

Sensing that he was never going to be able to eat enough peanut butter to appease the masses, he switched tactics.

After reaching 100,000 followers, he committed to covering himself with peanut butter.

Well, that number came and went.

One thing you've got to give the kid; he's willing to keep his word, except for the eating gallons of PB part.

But honestly, what does it say about our culture that we're so quick to encourage a young man to gorge himself to death on peanut butter for our amusement?

And even more disturbing, why is he eating Skippy peanut butter?

Everyone knows Jif is so much better.
