Illegal immigrant workers in the Hamptons are living under tarps because their billionaire bosses won’t shell out for basic housing

If you're ever in the Hamptons and you happen to notice all the pretty lawns and shrubs and hedges, be sure to spare a thought for the people who put it all together and who are probably living in a copse of sycamores 500 feet away:

Illegal immigrants who mow the lawns and paint the mansions of wealthy Hamptons residents are being forced to live in hovels hidden in the woods due to the sky-high cost of residing in the summer playground of celebrities such as Jerry Seinfeld, Billy Joel and Jay-Z and Beyoncé, The Post has learned.

Squalid encampments exist around the tony town of Southampton, including just off the main highway and in the waterfront village of Westhampton Beach.

"I work for very rich people in the Hamptons but I can't afford somewhere to live," lamented Juan Antonio Morales, 40.

"I am paid very little and an apartment costs too much money."

Hyper-rich Hamptons residents when looking over their perfectly manicured lawns tended by illegal workers who live in squalid conditions just through the woods:

I mean, to be sure, these guys shouldn't be there in the first place. They're illegal workers. They need to be deported and if they want to come back to work in the Hamptons (for whatever reason) they need to do it legally.

Still, it's kind of shocking that one of the most wealth-dense locations in the entire world cannot scrounge together a few bucks to build a few dormitories for local workers. Is that literally impossible?

Or is it maybe—possibly—that these folks don't want to draw too much attention to their cheap, vulnerable, highly exploitable illegal immigrant working class?

Maybe all this media attention will shame them into doing something about this. But probably not!
