Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is one of the luckiest people in the nation.
Not only has she been able to fulfill her Leftist dream of using government to crush people, she's been able to fly largely under the radar for her mistakes in handing COVID as the nation focuses on more incompetent leaders like governors Cuomo and Newsom.
But a long-awaited reckoning might soon be coming for Her Majesty as well.
See, Whitmer followed the same hairbrained approach as governors like Cuomo, shuttling sick patients into elderly care facilities.
And like Cuomo, Whitmer hasn't provided the full mortality data from such facilities.
Estimates say about 1 in 3 Michigan Rona deaths were inside nursing homes. But as conservative personality Steven Crowder noted last October, the way Michigan classifies "nursing facilities" is different than neighboring states. As a result, he argued, Whitmer was only reporting the deaths at 10% of such facilities.
Now, former New York Times reporter Charlie LeDuff – who won a Pulitzer for his work in 2001 – is partnering with a Michigan think tank to sue the governor for the data.
This line is the best:
"ALL THE WAY TO THE SUPREME COURT, MADAM."
Here was what LeDuff had to say in a followup email:
"The public has a right to know. Above all, the public has a need to know. We shut down the entire economy, we interrupted our children's lives, all in the name of protecting the most vulnerable. We now know this was the institutionalized elderly. If we could not protect them, at the very least we deserve an explanation from Madam Governor. If there's something more to it than that, let's say gross incompetence or gross negligence or gross press conferences designed to cover the facts, then she needs to answer for it. As I've always said, the power lies with the people, not the political parties."
Whitmer locked down her state for months and months – a move that did pretty much nothing to stop Rona deaths (see: every other surrounding state that didn't lock down). And yet, most of the spineless GOP representatives in Michigan have done nothing except pooh-pooh her.
I mean, sure, over 500k residents signed a petition to have her removed. Sure, the state Supreme Court voted twice that her orders were unconstitutional. Businesses everywhere are closed. Depression and addiction are skyrocketing. But that won't stop placid GOP leaders (who control the legislature) from doing nada to stop a woman who has imposed draconian control on 10 million people!
At least a few people have stood up. As a Michigander, I might have frequented said businesses sans mask quite a bit in the last year. Without incriminating myself, I may have heard that the tacos at Jimmy's Roadhouse on the west side of the state are pretty dang good.
Yet, after a year of living like a queen, the Empress of Michigan's reign might be finally coming to an end.
As Fox notes:
"The increasing attention on Michigan's handling of nursing homes during the pandemic comes as New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has faced calls for his impeachment over his administration's withholding of data on nursing home resident deaths."
Is the queen's spell finally coming to an end?
