The Internet's Favorite Thanksgiving Tradition Lives to See Another Year 🦃

Jamal Hinton was a senior in high school when he got a text from an unknown number inviting him to Thanksgiving. Wanda Dench had accidentally sent the text to Jamal instead of her grandson.

When Jamal responded letting her know she had the wrong number, he added in "Can I still get a plate tho?"

"Of course you can," she replied. "That's what grandmas do…feed everyone!" And thus began a wholesome tradition that is now in its 6th year.

Yes, they've eaten Thanksgiving dinner together for 6 years in a row.

The sweet tradition is a favorite of the internet, and Jamal has kept the Worldwide Web updated each year by sharing a picture of him alongside his accidental friend.

In an interview with CNN, Hinton said:

"Whenever we met, we would spend four or five hours, just talking and talking. It was never awkward, Wanda and Lonnie became two close best friends to me."

The unexpected friends have continued their Thanksgiving tradition, but they also keep up with one another throughout the year.

In an interview with The New York Times in 2020, Jamal said of Wanda,

"After meeting her the first time I just knew, she's another person, age is really just a number. It doesn't matter, you can be friends with anybody, you can be family with anybody."

Now that's something to be thankful for!
