Oliver Widger, a 29-year-old who was tired of the daily grind at Discount Tire, cashed out his retirement account, quit his job, and bought a sailboat.

He then set out from Oregon with the goal of making it to Hawaii, using GPS and Starlink internet to stay connected and on course.

On Saturday afternoon, he made it.

More from News 19:

Three years ago, Widger was diagnosed with Klippel-Feil Syndrome, a condition that causes abnormal fusion of cervical vertebrae, and several months ago, quit his job in pursuit of his dream, learning how to sail with help from YouTube and a neighbor. His first mate, Phoenix, whom he had rescued from a dumpster seven years ago, tagged along.

Here's Phoenix:

He sat sail from Warrenton Marina on April 30 for the 2,400-mile voyage, his first time sailing outside a river.

And get this: Hawaii's governor, Josh Green, met him at the Waikiki Yacht Club, along with fans.

He plans to stay in Hawaii for 6 months, then sail to French Polynesia, with the goal of sailing around the world.

I'll leave you with some videos from his journey if you want to soak in the spirit of adventure:
