New Swiss Army Knives in some countries won’t have the “knife” because it’s considered a weapon.

Swiss Army Knife manufacturer Victorinox announced that they are in the process of developing knifeless Swiss Army Knives.

That's like soy-free soy sauce, which admittedly isn't that bad if you can find a good coconut aminos teriyaki sauce.

The problem Victorinox is having with including the knife in the multi-tool is that so many governments are disarming their citizens, which means entire markets are disappearing for the knife maker.

Victorinox CEO Carl Elsener Jr. says,

'We are concerned about the increasing regulation of knives in the world due to violence. In England or certain Asian countries, you are sometimes only allowed to carry a knife if you need to have it to do your job or operate outdoors.

In the city, however, when you go to school, to the cinema, or to go shopping, carrying pocketknives is severely restricted.

So what will a knifeless Swiss Army Knife look like?

Elsener continued,

We're actually working on pocket tools without blades. For example, I have a cool tool for cyclists in mind. We already have a tool specifically for golfers in our range. Cyclists probably need special tools, but not necessarily a blade.

The blade creates a weapon image in some markets.

Yeah, tell that to these lady cyclists that had to fight off a cougar that attacked them. One of them using a pocketknife in a desperate attempt to save her friend.

Sure, it would be better to have a gun, but short of that, a knife is a pretty good survival tool.

A fact that Elsener also heralds.

Our pocket knife gives people security. Anyone who has it with them is always well prepared for everyday challenges. We have so far produced 500 million pocket knives and sold them all over the world. There are stories about how the little red pocket knife from Switzerland was used at the North Pole, the South Pole or on Mount Everest - and even in space!

These countries that are outlawing knives are the same ones systematically removing their citizens' freedoms and becoming ever more totalitarian.

I for one would rather go knife-to-claw with a hungry cougar than face the jackboots of a repressive regime.
