Uncomfortable stuff here out of the Texas legislature:

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has accused Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan of being drunk while presiding over the state legislature and demanded he resign over video of him slurring his words.

Paxton said in a statement on Tuesday that Phelan was seen in 'a state of apparent debilitating intoxication' and that his 'failures as Speaker have created a credibility crisis for all Republican candidates and for our entire Party.'

Was Phelan drunk? As one commentator observed, it was either drunkeness or he was "having a stroke:"

Shortly after Paxton's remarks, Phelan announced that the the House General Investigating Committee "has been looking into 'alleged illegal conduct" by the state attorney general. So it seems like there's more than a little bad blood between the A.G.'s office and state House Republicans.

Paxton has asked that Phelan resign "at the end of this legislative session," which occurs in five days.
