The U.S. Navy has officially debuted its first "gender-integrated" submarine

As the world teeters on the brink of global conflict and the U.S. position in the global order seems increasingly diminished, it is so good to know that our military is ...

(checks notes)

... putting men and women into the same confined spaces for months on end:

The U.S. Navy has commissioned its first submarine built to be "fully gender integrated," Fox News reported Sunday.

The USS New Jersey was commissioned Saturday at a ceremony at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Middletown, New Jersey, according to the outlet.

Prior to the New Jersey's launch, "no other U.S. submarines had been designed to house women and men."

Hmmm.

Those days are over. Going forward, "all nuclear-powered attack submarines and Columbia-class ballistic missile submarines will also be designed with gender-neutral accommodations from the outset."

As far as the sub's accommodations go,

... adjustments have been made to increase privacy in washrooms and sleeping areas and to improve access to top bunks and overhead valves.

Yes, you're reading that correctly:

They lowered the infrastructure of the ship because women tend to be shorter, and put steps for top bunks because they tend to have a harder time lifting themselves up.

Not a good sign for our military.

Good luck with your co-ed submarines, Navy.
