These five guys are going to have a fish tale for the ages once they make it back home.

Five South American fishermen had to survive by drinking rainwater, seawater, and parboiling fish in rusty engine water for 55 days.

I mean, it sounds gross. But you do what you need to survive.

The fishermen had reported damage to the boat's alternator two days after setting sail from Pucusana Bay, to the south of Peru's capital Lima, the navy said in a separate post on Friday.

The guys, ranging from 31 years old to 52 years old, went missing mid-March after all of the navigation and electronic equipment on the boat failed. With no way to communicate and no way to navigate, the men were truly lost at sea.

Last week, the Ecuadorian Navy announced that the men were found by a tuna boat and were now being processed to be returned home to Peru.

Here's a video message from them in Spanish:

They arrived in the Galapagos Islands on Sunday.

The men are in stable condition and the navy said it is coordinating with local and foreign authorities to ensure their safe return to their respective countries.

This is truly an amazing story of a one-in-a-million type of rescue.
