I tell you what, military folks are a whole different breed of human. They'll step up and do things you or I would never do.

Here's the unedited audio of a Ukrainian military officer refusing to hand his island over to the Russians. Please excuse the language, but not the absolute guts it took to use it:

Sadly, the island was taken by the Russians and all 13 Ukrainians were killed. There's even already a Wikipedia entry about it. This was a video from one soldier as the ship opened fire:

Ukraine lost contact with its forces on Zmiinyi (Snake) Island, a speck of land south of the port of Odessa, on Thursday after Russia conducted strikes from air and sea, Kyiv said.

A Ukrainian official said 13 soldiers had been killed and he circulated an audio clip that he and media outlet Ukrainskaya Pravda said was an exchange between Ukrainian and Russian forces.

"This is a Russian warship. I propose you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and unnecessary victims. Otherwise you will be bombed."

They didn't surrender.

These fine soldiers will be posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine, as they should be.

And they will go down in history as absolute Chads.
