After a recent snowstorm, Carlos Maldonado, an artist from Iowa City, was asked by his kids to build a snowman. But when your dad is a sculptor, just an ordinary snowman is not good enough.
Maldonado wanted to make something unique, so with help from his two sons, Gale and Oscar, he built a Great White Snow Shark instead.
The 5.5-foot sculpture has been attracting a lot of attention from locals, with people stopping in the family's yard to take pictures of the amazingly realistic snow shark. Maldonado has loved seeing so many people stop by to appreciate his masterpiece before it melts.
When asked if it was easy to make the sculpture, Carlos's son Oscar told Iowa's News Now,
It was really hard. I had to go inside many times, it got really cold.
Oscar's brother Gale made sure to let the news anchor know,
I was packing the snow. Then next, my dad spray painted it. My brother worked on the tiny fin over there. (Emphasis mine)
You gotta love brothers.
However the labor was divided, the end result was a fantastic-looking sculpture that the whole family should be proud of.
But especially Dad, because we know he probably did 99% of the work.
