The Titanic tragedy has been put to words, to painting and to film countless times. Yet arguably none of those have matched this latest effort for both historical accuracy and deep, moving poignancy:
This depiction, from the project Titanic Animations, occurs in real-time, e.g., about two-and-a-half hours, roughly from the time the ship first hit the iceberg to when she slips underneath the Atlantic and out of sight.
What's most astonishing is its level of historical detail: Using passenger accounts from the night of the sinking, the film tracks the movement of dozens of people during the emergency, from the captain down to average passengers.
Throughout, we also get a play-by-play of the desperate dialogue between the ship's wireless operators and the other boats in the area that responded to the sinking.
If you're a student of history, this is an excellent, moving and deeply affecting portrait of one of the most famous and terrible tragedies in the world.
