I have one of those new LED streetlights that was installed last year outside my house.

Instead of the soft orange glow of the old lights, I now have harsh white light that illuminates my yard like the full moon on steroids.

Millions of you have suffered my fate in recent years, and it shows. Here's a Twitter thread that went viral this weekend:

On one hand, I like the fact that the new lights better illuminate the road. If there's an axe murderer waiting nearby, he's gonna have to hide an extra hundred feet away. There's no hiding in the ring of shadows right outside the lamp light in 2023.

On the other hand, I'd rather be killed by an axe murderer than have my whole neighborhood lit up like a prison yard.

Engineers, this is your moment to shine! Find a solution!
