Top Gun: Maverick has earned $401.8 million (so far) at the U.S. box office, becoming the top-grossing domestic movie in 2022, surpassing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($398.1 million).

"[Maverick] has a shot at nearing $500 million domestically and $1 billion globally," The Hollywood Reporter said.

Maverick is the No. 2 domestic film of the "pandemic era" behind Spider-Man: No Way Home ($573 million) and is Tom Cruise's best-performing domestic film in more than 40 years of filmmaking.

"Particularly for a film like 'Top Gun: Maverick,' a tribute to the U.S. military released in time for the Memorial Day holiday in the U.S., there is a clear incentive to play to the film's most reliable audience constituencies, and it appears to have paid off financially." said Aynne Kokas, author of Hollywood Made in China said.
