Donald Trump was asked this week whether or not he'd given thought to suspending habeas corpus to not only some illegals who haven't seen a court date, but also American citizens deemed "insurrectionists."
Here was his answer:
Reporter: 'Have you given any more thought to possibly suspending habeas corpus to not only deal with these insurrectionists across the nation but also to continue rapidly deporting illegal aliens?'
Trump: 'Suspending who?'
Reporter: 'Habeas corpus.'
Trump: 'I don't know, I'd rather leave that to Kristi.'
I'll give Trump the benefit of the doubt here and say he didn't hear the actual question. 😂
At least he deferred the question to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, who said, "No sir, I haven't been a part of any discussions on that."
Surely she knows what it means to suspend habeas corpus?

Latin, meaning 'you have the body.' A writ of habeas corpus generally is a judicial order forcing law enforcement authorities to produce a prisoner they are holding, and to justify the prisoner's continued confinement. Federal judges receive petitions for a writ of habeas corpus from state prison inmates who say their state prosecutions violated federally protected rights in some way.
That's kind of an important one!
Usually -- huge emphasis on usually -- it is up to Congress to suspend habeas corpus.
