President Donald Trump hosted NYC Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani today, and says they had a "great meeting."
"The better he does, the happier I am."
Trump is at least not playing hardball for the cameras. It sounds like the meeting centered around areas of agreement rather than disagreement:
Later, a journalist would follow up with Mamdani about Trump being a fascist and it was a moment for the history books:
Trump says Mamdani has "some views that are out there," but he also says "some of my views have changed," and that Mamdani "can do a very good job" and "is going to surprise some conservatives."
Trump also said "Some of his ideas really are the same ideas that I have." What's more, Trump said he would feel comfortable living in New York City under Zohran Mamdani, claiming, "We agree on a lot more than I thought."
Trump then mentioned Bernie Sanders and the similarities he has with him.
Both Trump and Mamdani also said they want peace in the Middle East, but it's not clear how their respective sides of the argument mesh in this situation.
So I guess the meeting went well?
