Two Olympic judo competitors withdraw after refusing to fight Israeli athlete due to "Israel's treatment of Palestinians"

Nothing says "Wokyo Olympics" like a good ol' Israel boycott!

Algeria's Fetih Nourine withdrew from the Olympics' Judo competition after refusing to compete against Israeli athlete Tohar Butbul over "Israel's treatment of Palestinians." Sudan's Mohamed Abdalarasool also withdrew from his match against Butbul.

"We have worked hard to qualify for the Games, but the Palestinian cause is bigger than all that," Nourine said. "My position is consistent on the Palestinian issue, and I reject normalization, and if it cost me that absence from the Olympic Games, God will compensate."

I really don't get this...

First of all, what does a Judo match against one Israeli athlete have to do with the actions of Israel's government?

Second, as a Judo competitor, if you don't like something Israel is doing, wouldn't kicking an Israeli's Olympic butt (within the sport's rules, obviously) be an exciting prospect?

"We were unlucky with the draw, an Israeli opponent came out and that's why we had to withdraw, we made the right decision," Nourine's coach said. "We have worked hard to qualify for the Games, but the Palestinian cause is bigger than all that."

I'm not sure why they think they "had to withdraw" or that they "made the right decision." The only point this proves is that these Judo dudes that withdrew are losers.

Imagine thinking to yourself, "I disagree with what my opponent's country is doing. So, therefore, I'm going to help him win this tournament by forfeiting! Viva Palestine!"

It's completely counter-intuitive.

Maybe what's really going on is that they're afraid of losing to an Israeli and wouldn't be able to handle the shame.

The International Judo Federation (IJF) suspended Nourine and his coach for violating the organization's rules on "the neutrality of the sport at the Olympic Games."

Abdalarasool didn't show up to his match against Butbul or make as big a deal about it as Nourine, perhaps to avoid suspension from the IJF.

"Judo sport is based on a strong moral code, including respect and friendship, to foster solidarity and we will not tolerate any discrimination, as it goes against the core values and principles of our sport," the IJF said in a statement.

The moral of the story:

The best thing woke-activist Olympians can do at this point (other than denounce Wokeism) is to withdraw from the event itself to spare everyone of their nonsense.
