The folks who were cool with Joe Biden withholding school lunches from states that wouldn't go full-steam ahead on transing kids are very mad that Trump wants them to enforce immigration laws.

20 AGs have signed onto two lawsuits claiming that President Trump is withholding funds from states that won't enforce immigration law or cooperate with federal law enforcement.

Attorneys general in 20 states, including California, Illinois, Maryland and New York, filed separate lawsuits against the Homeland Security and Transportation departments. They argued that the administration is demanding local cooperation to qualify for federal grant money to repair roads and bridges, maintain airports and prepare for emergencies such as hurricanes or terrorist attacks.

I mean, that's kinda the point...

State officials said that imposing immigration enforcement requirements across a range of grant programs is 'arbitrary and capricious, exceeds the Trump Administration's legal authority, and violates the Spending Clause,' in the U.S. Constitution, which grants Congress the authority to collect taxes and other duties to provide for the defense and welfare of the United States.

'This is a blatantly illegal attempt to bully states into enacting Trump's inhumane and illogical immigration agenda,' California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a conference call with reporters. 'Once again, Trump's actions go beyond the scope of his presidential power.'

Translation: We'd rather keep illegal alien criminals on the streets than receive federal funds to fix our streets! And Bad Orange Man is mean!

The Trump Administration, far from denying or obfuscating on the issue, fully embraced the role of the law and order party.

'Cities and states who break the law and prevent us from arresting criminal illegal aliens should not receive federal funding,' DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said in an email Tuesday. 'No lawsuit, not this one or any other, is going to stop us from doing that'

A judge in California has, of course, already ruled against Trump in a similar case, issuing an injunction claiming that the administrative branch can't decide how to administrate, or something like that.

They're mostly mad that the Trump administration is governing the same way that Democrats have for decades, only this time for the benefit of the American people.

In one lawsuit, the attorneys general argued that DHS Secretary Kristi L. Noem issued a new set of 'Standard Terms and Conditions' on March 27 and April 18 that states are required to meet to be eligible for federal grant money.

Among the conditions: State officials must provide information to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and DHS about the citizenship and immigration status of 'any individual,' participate in 'joint operations' and grant immigration officers access to state buildings. The terms also require states to detain immigrants for ICE, typically after they have been arrested for state or local crimes, so that immigration officers can pick them up.

Yeah, I think most Americans would be totally in favor of these terms. But you guys go ahead with this time-wasting lawsuit and we'll see what comes of it.
