We really don't pay police enough.

On Thursday morning, officers in Brandon, Florida, were responding to a call concerning a 28-year-old man who was experiencing a "mental health crisis." The man, whose mother called police, already had five arrests, three felonies, and 14 misdemeanors under his belt at the time. Those numbers, however, were about to increase.

When police arrived they made an attempt to de-escalate the situation, but that only led to Ralph Bouzy reversing his vehicle out the driveway and leaving the area. Police continued to speak with Bouzy's mother and were still at the residence about 10 minutes later when Bouzy came back in his Nissan Altima. What happened next was something police could only describe as an ambush.

Watch:

[Warning: Graphic]

That's hard to watch, especially with the screaming officer off camera.

Luckily Bouzy didn't have a firearm on him or this could've been much, much worse.

The two officers who were hit experienced serious injuries, one of them possibly requiring a leg amputation as a result.

Bouzy, who's stated in the past that he hates cops and wanted to kill one, was charged with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer. Additional charges are pending.

In addition to paying police more, maybe we don't let guys with three felonies and over a dozen misdemeanors back out on the streets. Just a thought.
