The strike was one of the US military's final acts in Afghanistan, before ending its 20-year military operation in the country.

Two years old. Two.

U.S. military leaders on Friday expressed remorse over the killing of so many innocent children in such a badly botched missile strike:

"It was a mistake," Marine Gen. Frank McKenzie, chief of U.S. Central Command, said Friday.
