According to The Telegraph, Lucius' wife was the only one who had work authorization status, having found a job in the government-run National Health Service.
That job allowed the couple to stay in the country, and Lucius was listed as her dependent. In February 2024, another Nigerian, a 32-year-old woman named Joyce George, offered Lucius some of her shifts as a healthcare assistant at Countess of Chester Hospital, including work in the emergency department.
For TWO MONTHS, Lucius wore Joyce's badge, but no one confronted him. In a world where it's considered impolite to criticize people who have a subjective level of melanin in their skin, or where transgender identities make it impossible to know which sex a person is supposed to be, it seems no one thought it odd that Lucius was wearing a woman's ID badge.
It was only when a patient finally asked about it that the fraud scheme came to light.
...a patient confronted him about his identity, and he replied: ‘'My name is Joyce - but I am a man.'
Staff subsequently reviewed CCTV footage which showed him working several shifts at the hospital.
Lucius' education involved healthcare training, and both his lawyer and the judge noted that the quality of his work was not lacking.
According to the Daily Mail, defense lawyer Steven Alis "said Njoku was a qualified nurse but that 'safeguarding checks had not come through' at the time of the shifts."
He added: 'He accepted the seriousness of the matter. Since then, he has obtained the appropriate authorisation but has chosen not to work in the care industry. Instead, he now has employment at Vauxhall through an agency.'
(He got work authorization even after committing fraud?)
The primary problem, as noted by Judge Jack McGarva, was that a random man had access to patients, representing a serious breach of screening protocols.

You deceived your way into a job which requires safe guarding checks. That undermines the system. Although you were qualified and you did the work without complaint, that is not the point.
Lucius was given a suspended sentence along with a whopping ... £239 fine and 80 hours of community service.
As for Joyce George, she escaped back to Nigeria and doesn't seem to have any intention of being held accountable.
Countess of Chester Hospital is the same hospital that employed a serial killer nurse who murdered seven babies and tried to murder seven more.
