Remember a few months ago when this woman in Alabama faked her own kidnapping in a hilarious attempt to cover up the fact that she was stealing from her employer?
It was a wild ride, and you can read about it here:
She faked a kidnapping after stealing from Target, then tried to get an Amber Alert on herself after she went to hide in the woods for a few hours. Just think, in California, she could have been the first Ebony Alert!
Well, I've got an encouraging update for you.
Carlee Russell, the hoaxer, has been sentenced to a year in jail for her false police report and fake kidnapping.
Carlee Russell, the Alabama woman who admitted to faking her own kidnapping, has been found guilty of two misdemeanor charges related to the case, according to CNN affiliates WBMA and WVTM.
Russell had pleaded not guilty to one count of false reporting to law enforcement authorities and one count of falsely reporting an incident.
A judge found her guilty, and Russell was sentenced to spend a year in jail and pay nearly $18,000 in restitution, according to the reports.
Now, I don't know how this works because, while Russell did plead not guilty, she also admitted to police that the entire thing was a hoax.
And she's apparently going to appeal the decision, even though she's admitted she faked the entire thing. But the lawyer is just trying to get Russell out of serving jail time. He and his client are apparently totally willing to pay the fine, however.
This seems like a just sentence in the eyes of this author. Russell is a thief who wasted police time and resources and made national headlines with her bogus story. She should spend a little time in the slammer.
