Uvalde school board unanimously votes to fire school police chief Arredondo after his disastrous response to school shooting

The Uvalde school board has finally voted to fire the school police chief Pate Arredondo, the man who is responsible for allowing the Uvalde school shooter to continue to rampage after his officers showed up to the school.

From the Daily Wire:

The Uvalde school board voted unanimously on Wednesday night to immediately fire police chief Pete Arredondo over the disastrous response to the shooting at Robb Elementary earlier this year that resulted in the deaths of 19 children.

The disgraced police chief refused to attend the meeting because he was scared for his safety.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District had already recommended that Arredondo be fired.

Although he isn't the ONLY person to blame for the poor response, he is definitely one person that needs to be held accountable.

Arredondo defended himself, claiming that he is being used as a scapegoat.

"Chief Arredondo will not participate in his own illegal and unconstitutional public lynching and respectfully requests the Board immediately reinstate him, with all backpay and benefits and close the complaint as unfounded," Arredondo's attorney George Hyde, said in a statement.

It's unclear how being fired for cause after failing at your job in such a tragically spectacular way is akin to a "public lynching."

The families of the fallen children certainly disagree, as did many at the school board meeting.

The board deliberated for over an hour Wednesday evening before making its decision. Community members reportedly reacted with applause when the board announced its decision to fire Arredondo.

Uvalde citizens have waited weeks for the decision after the first meeting to consider Arredondo's firing was canceled last month, just two days after the recommendation to fire the police chief was placed on the agenda.

Just as a painful reminder, this is the operation Arredondo oversaw.

He and his crew, with HUNDREDS of officers present, stood around for an hour as shots rang out and children were slaughtered.

Being fired should only be the first step toward justice in this case.
