Venezuela's dictator declares election victory, calls on military to enforce "the will of the people," despite exit polls showing he lost by 30 points

Isn't it funny that the people who claim to care the most about the "will of the people" don't seem to give a hoot about the will of the people?

Bloomberg reports that an exit poll by US firm Edison Research "had [opposition leader] González winning by more than 30 percentage points."

Despite that, Nicholas Maduro's socialist regime claimed he had won after lengthy delays at polling stations (sound familiar?), then called on the military to enforce said "will of the people."

Political tensions in Venezuela soared anew after President Nicolás Maduro was declared the winner of Sunday's election and the opposition, rejecting that claim, called on the military to enforce what it said was the will of the people.

After a lengthy delay following the closing of polls, Venezuela's electoral center said Maduro won 51.2% of the vote, compared with 44.2% for rival Edmundo González.

THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE!

Here's the exit poll by Edison Research:

But none of that matters. What matters is that the government-backed media has told the people not to question the results.

And if you do question the results?

Well, what are the citizens of Venezuela going to do, shoot the politicians if they keep cheating and oppressing them?

Those in power have no reason to give it up if nothing can oppose them. They certainly have no reason to tell the truth.

Americans might want to start paying attention to the important object lesson of Venezuela.
