Sadly, this is a very real story.
A group of workers at a Knoxville dental office found a personal diary left behind by a patient and one worker read it aloud while others gathered around like it was story time. They mocked the patient even as they read entries about the person's battle with cancer.
Then one employee thought it was so "funny" that she uploaded it to the internet.
The three employees in the video, as well as the person who recorded and uploaded the video, have been fired, according to a Google post from Premier Dental Group of Knoxville.
'Premier Dental Group of Knoxville is aware of a recent incident involving an inappropriate video created and shared by some of our employees that addressed an individual's medical condition in a disrespectful and unprofessional manner,' the statement says. 'We deeply regret this incident and the hurt it has caused.'
The statement goes on to apologize to the patient and to the patient's friends and family. 'This behavior does not reflect the values, nor does it meet the standards we hold ourselves to when it comes to respecting the dignity and privacy of others.'
This is quite possibly a HIPAA violation, which means that licenses could be lost.
Hopefully, those fired employees will enjoy their new jobs at the local Burger King.
