NBC4 Washington reporter Aimee Cho on Wednesday got what she apparently thought was one heck of a visual scoop when she witnessed an ICE detainment in downtown D.C. š
Was Cho attempting to gin up sympathy for a fellow who just "wants to be with [his] family"? The comment section sure thought so.
ICE agents originally didn't tell the reporter what the man was being arrested for. But they shortly followed up with her:
Homeland Security also replied to the post, first with a meme, then with details.
Cho was quick to do a bit more digging and note that the sexual battery charges were dropped, but not because prosecutors wanted to drop them.
Instead, the girl and her mother wouldn't cooperate with the police.
There are many cases where migrants who have entered the country are afraid of being deported themselves, or facing retribution from the criminal elements that control their neighborhoods, if they work with police. This adds additional complexity to other possible reasons why people, even mothers, would cover up sexual crimes against children.
Open border policies have allowed for countless young children to be trafficked and sexually abused away from the eyes of the law.
Regardless of the future outcome of the molestation case, the man has also entered the country illegally three times.
