In Paulsboro, New Jersey, a local elected official gave us the ultimate "Rules for Thee, But Not for Me" when he decided to go into a full reality-TV meltdown when cops pulled him over.
Meet Democratic Councilman Theodore D. Holloway II, who got himself pulled over for allegedly breezing through a stop sign on the morning of January 4.
Now, a normal person might say, "Oops, my bad," hand over their license, and go about their day.
But not Teddy. Oh no.
"You can't be serious. What exactly are you getting behind me for?" he said, before going into full "Do You Know Who I Am?" mode after the officer explained that he ran a stop sign.
"Don't think I ain't going to talk to Gary about this," he huffed, referring to Paulsboro Police Chief Gary Kille. "I'm the one that hired you!"
Then he delivered his pièce de résistance:
You're not pulling over a random. You're pulling over your boss. I am literally your boss!
Another day, another incorrect use of the word "literal."
At this point, the officer — who deserves a medal for patience — called for backup because his "boss" was "freaking out." When the supervising officer arrived, Holloway tried again: "You know who I am, right?"
Paulsboro Mayor John Giovannitti later weighed in, clarifying that Holloway was neither accurate nor professional.
"We don't get special treatment," he said.
In the end, Holloway got cited: not for running the stop sign, but for an expired vehicle registration. Oops.
Remember: if you have to ask someone "do you know who I am," they don't know who you are.
