If you're wondering why the ocean was on fire, it was a gas leak in a line owned by the Mexican government.
It took several hours for the leak west of the Yucatan Peninsula to be contained.
The funniest sight was the government dispatching fire boats to put out the flames... you know, in the freaking OCEAN!
The state-owned company said no significant gas had been spilled, since most of it burned up.
A bunch of people immediately saw the disaster and started shouting screeds of environmental doom.
I should note again that the company, Pemex, is owned and run by the corrupt Mexican government.
This is often what happens when politicians run private enterprises. Maybe we should be holding their corruption to account before giving said politicians even more control over our energy in the name of the environment. Just a thought.
