President Joe Biden — the picture of confidence last week:
"I've already delivered the message to Iran. They know not to do anything."
Several explosions were reported near the U.S. Consulate in Erbil, Iraq, an Iraqi security source told ABC News.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps quickly took responsibility for the attacks, saying it was targeting the "headquarters of spies" and "anti-Iranian terrorist gatherings in parts of the region" with ballistic missiles.
Only thing you can say at a time like this:
A U.S. official said "no US facilities were impacted" and the military is "not tracking damage to infrastructure or injuries at this time." So that's good news.
I kinda find it hard to believe that Iran didn't know what it was doing, though.
This is what's called "putting out feelers." Iran wants to see how the U.S. responds to shelling within earshot of one of its consulates. (It's a safe bet to say the U.S. will respond weakly and without force.)
Note that this is a pattern of increased boldness from Iran in recent months:
I think they're only going to get bolder from here on out.
